Editors' Guide: Stories
In UNews you can publish these types of stories:
- Standard Story (mainly text with numerous multimedia options in the sidebar)
- Standalone Video
- Standalone Map
- Standalone Slideshow
- Standalone Audio Slideshow
For all story types, the main things you have to do are:
- In the CMS, click Publish (tab)-> Stories
- Give your story a headline. The CMS will automatically create a title for the URL that looks similar. (Note: if you change your headline, you must manually change the URL title to match -- with hyphens in place of spaces and no punctuation)
- Click the Categories tab and click at least one item from each of the three categories (but don't click the category names themselves).
On a Mac, hold the Command key to multiple-select, on a PC hold the Control key - [Optional] Add reporters to the byline
- Preview it before you publish it. On the Edit page story list, click Live Look to preview your story before you change the status.
- Publish it
Standard Story
Take a look at this sample story to see the range of story elements you can include.
Fill in some of the fields to build a story. Most are self-explanatory. See the sidebar at left for specific instructions.
Note: Put a blank return between paragraphs in MS Word. When you paste into Expression Engine it will format your story neatly into separate paragrahps. A single return between paragraphs will format your whole story in EE as a single paragraph.
