Glass shattered and cheers erupted when over 50 students smashed a car with a sledgehammer on Tuesday.

All of the smashing at Mount Saint Vincent University was for prostate cancer awareness. Zac Quinlan, MSVU’s student union vice-president, hosted the event as a Movember fundraiser. The afternoon event brought in $500. Students donated $5 for three chances to smash the car.

“Everyone is familiar with Movember, but it’s about doing something about it. Being familiar with it, but also getting involved and having fun with it and spreading awareness that way,” says Quinlan.

Throughout the event about 200 students came to watch and cheer.

The timing was perfect for students looking to let off a little end-of-term stress.

“It’s November and school is getting pretty stressful. You’re busy, so you can let out anger in a positive way because it’s all for a good cause,” says Alissa Ali, a third-year chemistry student. “You never really get an opportunity to do this.”
